The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey found that nearly all men who had ever been prescribed finasteride, the active ingredient in Propecia, a prescription drug, were also prescribed finasteride and that the number of finasteride prescriptions among all finasteride users was the same as among those who never had any prescription for the drug.
This study was published in theJournal of the American Medical Association, covering the year 2005. It is the largest study on the health benefits of finasteride and the first to examine men who ever filled a prescription for it and who ever used it.
Propecia is one of the oldest and most popular prescription medications available for the treatment of male pattern baldness. The active ingredient in Propecia is finasteride. Finasteride is the active ingredient in the prescription drug Propecia and is used to treat male pattern hair loss, the most common form of balding.
The drug was originally developed as a treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition in which the prostate gland becomes enlarged. It works by inhibiting the action of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
Studies have shown that finasteride is effective in treating hair loss in men with BPH, and it has been shown to be effective in men with male pattern hair loss. As a result, a number of men are using finasteride as part of their treatment for the condition.
